Tiny canvases and a rockhound weekend
Saturday afternoon is free painting at the library. The same weekend, the rock club sells specimens at Pioneer Pavilion.
Saturday at the library
Tiny Canvas Painting

Ferndale Library, 2125 Main St
A drop-in, self-guided painting session on tiny canvases. All ages. Children need an adult with them. Materials are provided, one canvas per person. Free. Registration is encouraged so the Friends of the Ferndale Library, who sponsor it, have enough supplies. It is not required.
Finished paintings go into the Tiny Art Show at the library for October and can be picked up the first week of November.
The library’s posted hours are Monday–Thursday 9:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00–5:00 p.m. The live grid sometimes closes about 15 minutes sooner.

Rock weekend
Rockhound Rendezvous
Sat Sep 26 and Sun Sep 27
Pioneer Pavilion Community Center, 2007 Cherry St
The Mount Baker Rock & Gem Club says the autumn sale is Sep 26–27 at the pavilion, in front of Pioneer Park. Members sell or swap rocks, jewelry, tools, and other rock-related items. The public is invited to shop. Sales are usually cash, paid to the member at the table.
The club says there is no food for sale, so bring a lunch. Public hours are not posted the way the March gem show posts Saturday 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Do not assume those hours. The city’s facility calendar shows the pavilion reserved from Fri Sep 25, 1:00 p.m., through Sun Sep 27, 6:00 p.m., which can include setup. Check the club site before you go.

The March show is the one that describes a kids’ spinning wheel and free rocks. Those notes sit in the spring-show section, not under Rockhound Rendezvous. Treat this weekend as a sale unless the club posts more.

Toddler Storytime

Ferndale Library large meeting room
Ages 1–3, about 20 minutes. The two Monday sessions are the same program: concept books, simple stories, and movement.
Witches Dance
Tue Sep 22 · 6:30–7:30 p.m.
Pioneer Pavilion, 2007 Cherry St
Free weekly practice through Oct 27. Registration required. Ages 12 and under stay with a parent or guardian. Four practices qualifies you to perform later. Performing is optional.
The pavilion is also the rock sale site later this week. Tuesday practice is before the weekend reservation.
Preschool Storytime
Fri Sep 25 · 10:30–11:00 a.m.
Ferndale Library large meeting room
Ages 3–5, 30 minutes. Longer stories, rhymes, and songs. The next Friday is Oct 2.
Outside
Hovander Homestead Park, 5299 Nielsen Rd, is open 8:00 a.m. to sunset. Playgrounds are temporarily closed for new fall protection after flooding. The Tennant Lake marsh boardwalk is closed during hunting season, September through March. Picnic tables by the house are first come, first served. No ticketed program is posted there this week.

After this weekend
The tiny paintings hang at the library through October, including next Saturday and Sunday during open hours. Community Crafting Day is listed for Sat Oct 3 at FrinGe, with no time posted yet. Witches Dance practice continues Tuesday evenings.
