Storytime, witch practice, and a downtown taste
Monday and Friday are storytimes at the library. Tuesday is free witch-dance practice. Friday night is a paid food and art walk downtown.
Library
Ferndale Library is at 2125 Main St. Phone (360) 384-3647. The Whatcom County Library System page lists hours as Monday–Thursday 9:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00–5:00 p.m. The live hours grid sometimes closes about 15 minutes earlier. Check it the day you go.
Toddler Storytime

Ages 1–3, about 20 minutes. Concept books, simple stories, and movement. The library says the Monday series meets at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. with the same program. The 9:30 listing includes Sep 14. The 10:30 listing that is posted starts the following Monday, Sep 21.
Preschool Storytime

Ages 3–5, 30 minutes. Longer stories, rhymes, and songs. The same Friday slot continues Sep 25 and Oct 2.
Tuesday practice
Witches Dance

Pioneer Pavilion Community Center, 2007 Cherry St
The city’s Parks, Recreation, and Trails Advisory Board runs a free synchronized broom dance. Practices are every Tuesday from Sep 8 through Oct 27. No experience needed. Registration is required. The form is on the city page.
Kids 12 and under must have a parent or guardian with them the whole time. Performing later is optional. The city says you need at least four practices to perform, and you can also come just to learn the dance.
The pavilion sits in front of Pioneer Park. The barn in the park is a short walk from the door.

Taste of Ferndale

Seven downtown stops, check-in at WaFd Bank, 2045 Main St
The Ferndale Chamber’s walking tour: a host business, a local artist, light bites, and beverages at each stop, one wristband, $20. A paper map comes at check-in. Online registration closes at 4:00 p.m. that day. Day-of tickets are at WaFd.
Stops listed by the chamber: WaFd Bank, FrinGe Brewing, Sophia Grace Gallery, Salumi, Leader Block Trattoria, Valley View Pottery, and It’s About Time Cultural Arts Center. Bites come from Crave Catering, Grounded in Life Coffee, Where’s The Food, Leader Block, Salumi, and Anjali Bakery.
This is a paid stroll with drinks, including a brewery stop. It is a night out, not a kids’ festival. Storytime that morning is the family half of Friday.
Outside
Hovander Homestead Park, 5299 Nielsen Rd, is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to sunset. Whatcom County says the playgrounds are temporarily closed while new fall protection goes in after flooding. The Tennant Lake marsh boardwalk closes in hunting season, September through March. Individual picnic tables between the house and the group shelter are first come, first served.
No special program is posted at the park this week. It is the wide-open option if downtown is enough for Friday.

Rockhound Rendezvous is Sat Sep 26 and Sun Sep 27 at the Pioneer Pavilion. Tiny Canvas Painting, free and all ages, is Sat Sep 26, 2:00–4:00 p.m. at the library. Those paintings hang at the library through October.
